The old city of Vigan lies about 408 km north of Manila and can be reached by bus. Travel time can take from eight to twelve hours depending on how heavy the traffic is going out of Manila. Vigan is the best preservation city from the Spanish colonization period and entitled as Heritage City by UNESCO.
The landmarks of Vigan are: St Paul Metropolitan Cathedral, Plaza Burgos, Plaza Salcedo in Mestizo District and the ancestral houses.
When visiting the town make sure you sample the local longganisa (pork sausage), bagnet (air-dried, deep-fried pork), bibingka (rice cake) and the empanadas at the Plaza Salcedo. You can take a tour around town on a horse-drawn calesa. Vigan is also famous for antique (both authentic and faux) furnitures and handwoven textile.
