In local parlance, it's called 'T or C', and lies about two hours south of Albuquerque on Interstate 25. The former city of Hot Springs, Truth or Consequences is an interesting little town. Named after the television show of the 1950's, it's one of the more unusual places in the American West. The old bathhouses and hot springs still carry on in the historic downtown district, while more modern development has taken place near Elephant Butte State Park. Many old buildings have been lovingly restored, and now serve as restaurants, delis, bed and breakfast lodges, and art galleries. The art community in this little town is definitely happening; take some time to check it all out.

For boaters and the water recreation crowd, the city is important due to its closeness to Elephant Butte Reservoir, the biggest reservoir in New Mexico. The nearby Gila National Forest is also a draw for outdoor enthusiasts. Several of New Mexico's better ghost towns are close by for the history buffs and fans of the old west.

The best times to visit are fall, winter, and spring. Summer in T or C can be scorchingly hot. The town is very popular with retirees and the RV crowd in the winter, so reservations may be a good idea. Summer brings the rowdy boating crowd; big summer weekends can be quite hectic.
