Stralsund is an old Hanseatic town on the east German coast of the Baltic Sea. It's a very old town that dates back more than 750 years and has many monuments and histoirc sights. It is alos an idela base for going to Rugen. Built more than half a century ago, the Rügendamm is still the only bridge linking Stralsund and Rügen, Germanys biggest island. Also for most of the holidaymakers on the island of Hiddensee, the town on the Strelasund is point of departure and return of a pleasant day cruise by steamer.
The most beautiful view of the old town can be enjoyed from the waterfront. The skyline with the silhouettos of the Town Hall and the churches is quite impressive. As far back as in the period of the Hanseatic League, it was already the harbour of Stralsund where the towns heart beat. The harbour is is still the best starting point for a walk past the red brick houses of the old town.
