Stepney is a small suburb east of the city of Adelaide. Drive through it in fast car & you will miss it. It is 90 minutes in most directions from any wine producing area, the exception being the Adelaide Hills which are a comfortable 20 minute trip.

Stepney has charm. It is an old working class suburb first laid out in the late ninteenth century. It is almost fully developed to small or medium size Victorian era cottages built on small allotments which had been deliberately cut up in this way so as to keep the cost down for its working class inhabitants. It is a forgotten jewel in Adelaide's crown in that it is very pleasant, quite historic & laregly unsullied by development. A walk through Stepney is a stroll thru Victorian Adelaide.

It is located about 5 minutes' drive (10 minutes by bus) from the City of Adelaide between Magill & Payneham Roads, bounded on its eastern side by Portrush Road.

A 10 minute walk will take you to The Parade, the major shopping street & coffee shop/restaurant location in the inner eastern suburbs. Once like Stepney, a working class suburb, now unfortunately gentrified & the sole preserve of those aspiring to claim birth with a silver spoon in the mouth. Sadly both Norwood & Stepney have lost some of the rollicking, naughty slightly bawdy lower class ambience they originally came with, but if you concentrate hard you can still hear its echo.
