As the capital of Minnesota, together with its twin sister city of Minneapolis, Saint Paul is a great metropolis with lots of things to see and do along with a side order of history.
While Minneapolis is considered, to some, the first city of the west, Saint Paul could definitely be the last old city of the East. Saint Paul got it's roots as a trading post named Pig's Eye after it's founder, but as it grew into a town, missionaries renamed it to it's current title after it's newly constructed church in 1841. The city has managed to maintain it's roots in history, with many historic nieghtborhoods, and has echewed much of the hustle and bustle of it's sister city.
While being a little more relaxed than Minneapolis, Saint paul still has many features to attract and entertain people of all ages.
Families and History buffs can tour the historic neighborhoods like Cathedral Hill and Summit Ave, as well as taking many tours of places like the James J. Hill House and also visting the Minnesota History Center. To continue learning, visit the Science Museum of Minnesota or take the kids to the Minnesota Children's Museum.
Sports fans can be entertained with the Minnesota Wild or the Minnesota Swarm at the Xcel Energy Center, catch some baseball with the Saint Paul Saints at Midway Stadium, or take a short drive to see the Minnesota Twins or the Minnesota Vikings.
To take a rest and have some great food or drinks, there's no shortage of places to visit in Saint Paul. There's fine dining at places like Forpaugh's or W.A Frost and company. Ther's fun casual dining at palces like Mickey's Dining Car and the various Irish Pubs around the city. There's no shortage of good international food either!
Shopping addicts beware, besides having great neighborhood shopping on Grand Ave, Saint Paul is only a 15 minute drive from the biggest shopping mecca in the USA, The Mall of America. During the summer look for the Farmer's Market downtown.
Another good soruce of family entertainment is Harriet Island. Besides being a beautiful park on the Mississippi riverfront, it also plays host to mant festivals throughout the year. Some of the most popular are Taste of Minnesota, The Irish Fair, Memorial Day festivities, and other outdoor concert events.
Every winter Saint Paul shows it isn't afraid of the cold and parties is up at the annual St. Paul Winter Carnival. There's there are always activities galore including skating rinks, ice carving and in some years massive ice palaces.
Saint Paul also has many wonderful parks to erlax and enjoy. Como Park has a conservatory and also a zoo to visit. The Minnesota Zoo is also a short drive.
St. Paul has attractions and activities for a family on vacation, someone visiting for business, or a couple searching for romance. Amusement parks, museums, historic sites, shopping, fine dinging, and educational attractions all add up to a fun experience for all.
