Schwerin is the second largest city in 'Mecklenburg-Vorpommern' and also the old residential seat of the Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The former royal residence and present state capital lies in the middle of one of Germanys most beautiful lake districts, the 'Mecklenburger Seenplatte'.

The Schwerin Chateau, lying on an island in Lake Schwerin is one of the most notable historic buildings in Germany and an irresistible tourist attraction as is the Schwerin Cathedral, a fine example of Gothic brick architecture.
