Located 68 kms from Bhopal, Sanchi is distinctive because it has the finest specimens of almost all sorts of Buddhist architectural forms, such as stupas, chaityas, temples and monasteries (dating from the 3rd century BC). Visit the stupas with circular domes and railings around them and the Ashoka Pillar. The Gupta temple, built in the 4th century, and the Great Bowl carved out of one piece of stone are also impressive sights. The museum displays a number of sculptures found in the surrounding area.
