Raipur is the capital city of Chattisgarh. The town of Raipur dates back to the 9th century, and some sights from that period can still be seen in the southern part of the city, including the ruins of the fort can.
'Modern' Raipur, however, was founded by the King Rama Chandra in the last quarter of the 14th c. A.D.
Sights include: The Burha Talab, a lake with a small island with gardens & trees in its midst, Dudhadhari Temple stands next to the lake. 500 years old and dedicated to Rama. Has some elaborate carvings. There is also a small museum, called the Mahant Ghasi Memoral Museum with some local finds.
Daytrips can be made to arang (old temples), Rajim (more temples) and Sirpur (even more temples).
