Oberammergau is famous for its passion play firsat performed in 1633. The show takes place every ten years and began when the town was miraculously spared of the bubonic plague that swept Europe and the surrounding seas. It was the only town that was plague-free. The Oberammergauersmade a promise to celebrate the life of God every 10 years if they were spared and it is o this day still a miracle that they were spared. The next Passion Play is in 2010 and I hear tickets go on sale in 2008. Booking early is recommended by the locals.
