Noordpolderzijl is the smallest sea harbour of the Netherlands. It's located in the north (of the province of Groningen) and it is in direct tide-connection with the Waddensea. Only small ships can make this harbour at high tide because of limited navigable depth.
The harbour's name shows exactely what it stands for: the zijl of the North polder, where a 'zijl' is a sluice and a 'polder', especially in the Netherlands, is an area of low-lying land, that has been reclaimed from the sea and is protected by dikes.
The one and only house in Noordpolderzijl is an authentically driven cafe. Check the [Bars & Cafes] section.
