South of Imphal, Moirang is one of the ancient villages of Manipur with a typical Mao character. As far as history goes, the traditional 'Moirang Lai Haraoba' is celebrated in the month of May. During the festival, hundreds of people dance and sing together in honour of Thangjing. At the time of World War II, Moirang was the headquarters of Azad Hind Fouz. This is also the place where Netaji hoisted the flag of the I.N.A for the first time on Indan soil. Moirang offers an I.N.A. memorial with the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
