Midwest City was founded during World War II when Tinker AirForce Base was opened in  South East Oklahoma City.  It grew very quickly as Douglas Aircraft and others built large mainenanance facilities as Tinker became the primary maintenance depot of the United States Air Force.  In the 1970's GM opened a large Automotive Assembly plant in the city.  Completely surrounded by Oklahoma City, the town grew until it ran out of space.  Its population has been about 50,000 since the mid 1970's.

Midwest city is a very blue collor bedroom community with lots of sub urban sprawl.  It features an incredible number of fast food restaurants and chain retail establishments.  Due to the large number of military personel from the US and its allies, Midwest City/Del City also has some of the best options for Asian cuisine (and the only Korean restaurants in the area).
