Built for the monks in the XIIIth century, it rather looks as a royal castle than a monastery.

When you wonder around the site, do not forget the three vows, the monks had to take: poverty, chastity, and obedience.

When you enter the interiors of the castle, you will need to repeat those vows from time, to time, especially seeing the colours - green, red and blue, whish in medieval times were the colours of... royalty.

Well, you might ask: where from did the monks have so much wealth to build something like that! The wealth of the Teutonic Knights came (among the others) from ... amber.
