Fort Bend County is one of the fastest growing areas in the United States (2002 est. 399,537). Situated southwest of Houston (which actually is in part of the county as well), the area has enjoyed growth due to the city next door.
Sugarland, Missouri City, and Stafford are bedroom communities and each present local activities. This area is home to regional and national headquarters for several large companies and is one of the area's suburban centers.
The twin cities of Rosenberg and Richmond are about fifteen minutes southwest of Sugarland and are near the center of the county. Richmond is the county seat and is home to several historical museums and sites of local importance. Rosenberg, the larger of the two, has an antiques district downtown and is home to a railroad museum.
Brazos Bend State Park is home to over 4000 acres of diverse wildlife and is also the site of one of the first Challenger Centers dedicated after the shuttle's demise. It's primary focus is educating young people about space travel and science. It is here you can also get a look at the Fort Bend Observatory which is home to one of the largest telescopes in the country that remain open to the public.
Trivia: Fort Bend County's Courthouse is the one featured in scenes on the syndicated program 'Texas Justice'. The show is syndicated by Houston's FOX affiliate, KRIV-TV and filmed in their studios.
