The East Coast of Tasmania is a string of beaches and coastal ranges, with small seaside towns strung like beads along the coastline. in summer it is the best destination for a beachside holiday, and it is also has the mildest weather year round. Although the wilderness areas of the East coast are smaller than in the West (the longest hikes may take four days or so) it has an abundance of opportunities for hiking, climbing and cycling tours.
The East Coast can be reached from either Hobart or Launceston, but Hobart is probably easier. Simply head north past the airport and you will hit the coast proper at Orford. The main stretch extends from there to St Helens in the North East, with a number of towns and parks along the route.
