Drass is a small village in Kargil district, derives its name from the Drass valley that adjoins Suru and Zanskar valleys in the Norther Himalayas. The Indo-Pak Kargil war of 1999 was concentrated in this small village. The Tololing and The Tiger Hill peaks were made famous by this war. Beautiful as they might be, one can't trek on them because they fall on the border. One can have a quiet walk in the village, or by the river that flows next to it.
Drass is the last stop before entering Kashmir. The traffic from Drass to Kashmir is allowed to move between 6am-12noon, after that it's the other way. The road closes at 6pm.
