The city, which was named for the shrine in Greece, lies south of the Wabash River and straddles Deer Creek. The population is estimated at 3,000.

The city was an important port on the Wabash & Erie Canal, a segment of which is being restored at Delphi.

The community's major employers are the Indiana Packers Corp., a large pork processing plant south of the city; Glove Valve and Peters-Revington Furniture. The 2000 Census showed 8.2 percent of the city's population was born outside the U.S. In recent years, the city has seen an increase in immigrants from Mexico, many of whom were drawn to the community by the prospect of jobs at Indiana Packers.

Delphi falls within the economic orbit of Lafayette and many residents commute to Lafayette and West Lafayette, where most of the community's out-of-town shopping occurs.

The city is served by the Delphi Community School Corp. School teams are nicknamed the Oracles, in reference to the historical significance of the city's name.

Delphi's architectural centerpiece is the Carroll County Courthouse, a three-story limestone structure that features a stained-glass dome and multi-level rotunda.
