Cuenca is a very nice city. Numerous churches, museums, convents, open squares, colonial buildings and colourful markets wait to be explored by the visitor. The city is divided by the Tomebamba River.
Cuenca is the home of the World famous Panama Hat, originally donated by Equador in respect and gratitude of the Panama Canal, they gave every worker on the project a finely woven hat to keep the sun off. The project gave such promotion to the hat, it became known as a Panama, although it should have been called and Equador!
