Located in the southwest corner of Colorado, Cortez is an interesting little town. It's the gateway to the world famous Mesa Verde National Park, where the ancient cliff dwellings of the Pueblo Indians are preserved. The town itself reflects this heritage, with many cheezy motels dedicated to the ancient Indians or the cliff dwellings. Still, Cortez itself should not be missed. There's an interesting museum, decent restaurants and shops, and a genuine, laid back attitude that makes for a fun visit.
