Constantine is one of the major cities of the East of Algeria, not too far from the Tunisian border. The setting of the city is striking: a deep gorge protects the city on almost all sides.
The gorge can be crossed by one out of four bridges that make it possible to travel from the centre to the outskirts of the city and vice versa. The gorge itself is quite polluted, which is a shame.
Apart from the spectacular setting there is not a lot to see in Constantine itself. There are a few museums, but the most enjoyable thing to do is to walk around and just chat with the people. Nightlife in Constantine was pretty okay before the recent turmoil.
