Collinsville itself is unremarkable, but it is the sight of Cahokia Mounds State Historic Sight, the most important center of the Mississippian mound building culture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At its height in the 11th or 12th century, over 20,000 people called Cahokia home. About 80 mounds still remain at the site, including Monk's Mound, the largest prehistoric structure in North America at 100 feet high. The visitor's center includes an introductory video and a museum that illustrates various aspects of Mississipian life.
It also has a public library that doubles as a musuem. It has the worlds largest ketchup bottle. it is the horse radish capital of the world.
