The city of Chinon is dominated by a medieval fortress that was once a major stronghold of King Henry II of England. Historically speaking it is most famous however because it was here that Jeanne d'Arc met king Charles VI. The ruins of the castle are impressive from the outside but there is not much left of interest on the inside.
The town itself is absolutely charming; one of the sights is the house were Richard Lionheart died.
