Bellingham is a small city(around 40,000), about 80 miles North of Seattle and 20 miles South of the Canadian border.  Tho' there are many natives, walking around you will certainly have trouble finding anyone between the ages of 15 and 30 who hasn't moved in.  Bellingham is a broke travellers paradise, with wonderful beach front squatting available and plenty of warm, friendly people to shoot the breeze with.  Looking for a place to grab a drink, the Horseshoe Cafe on Railroad Ave. has the best cheese fries and a great bar.  More the coffee type, try a locally brewed Tony's Coffee, available at Stuart's, a local haunt with plenty of free live music and poetry nights or the Black Drop, a quiet place to meet plenty of outgoing locals.
