Almere (Flevoland) is a totally new-built town on the bottom of the former Zuiderzee / Ijsselmeer. The town was started in 1975 but now has already 180.000 inhabitants, now being the fastest growing city in The Netherlands.

Almere's slogan is 'everything is possible in Almere'. There is much to do, including very nice and long shopping in Almere-Stad, directly out of the railway station. Trains to Amsterdam leave every 10 minutes between 05:30 and 24:00.

Of course there is not a historical city centre, but it has a museum of modern art (near the station) and Almere is also famous for its architecture. Just walk around and you'll see architecture enough.

Suggestion: take a bus tour with bus 1, which drives through all three parts of the town: Almere-Buiten, Almere-Stad and Almere-Haven.

Almere-Haven has a beach and a lively harbour with a ferry to Huizen.
