Algiers is quite an attractive city. The old town, known as the Casbah, is a maze of pretty small alleys and whitewashed houses.
There are quite a few nice boulevards dating back from the days of the French, who come in Algiers in 1830 and stayed for 130 years.
For a great view of the city and its bay drive up to the Couvent dAfrique. The lookout is high on a hill and the view from there is exceptional.
Daytrips from Algiers include Chrea (where you might be able to ski), Chiffa Gorge the towns of Tipasa, Djemila and Timgad and the ruins at Tenes and Cherchell.
