Description of China

China is incredible in many ways. The list of sights and things to do here is endless, not to mention the thick culture and wonders of this country. A few notable must-sees include the barren highlands of Tibet via the Silk Road to the bewildering Forbidden City at Bejing, the magnificent...

Xmas in the west has been the bane of of my adult life.  It interupts the pleasant flow of general life and business with a most uneccesary need to stop.

So each year at Xmas time I seek excuses to be somewhere else than my place of birth. 2007 led me to the beuatifal town of Lijian in Yunna Province in China.

Yunnan is famous for its beauty and the home of some of China's many colourful "minorities".  Lijiang is a wondorous and beautiful little town at the foot of the Himalyan plateau.

Framedwith the backdrop of Jade mountain, lijiang was the most delightful Xmas retreat in many years.  Beauty, history and traditional Chinese culture all blend together.

Peacefull and for the first time in 4 years working throughout China we had clear, clean air every day.

A must place to visit for lazy business traveller like me or the low budget backpackers

business travel is bad at the best of times, so when your life consists entirely of travel you crave finding some place different, quiet and personal. Cosy Corner in Chengdu is a treat.

A quiet, warm and friendly book room where conversation flows easily and a tradional tea or coffee is always available.

Cosy Corner is the creation of  an elegant young Sichaun lady "Cossie" who has a passion for people and books. and her students.   I was lucky to meet Cossie two years ago when She assited my 15 year old try to learn mandarin.

No doubt she has had a lot more success with her tea room than my sons mandarin.  Cosy Corner is a delightful reality and a place i love to visit if my schedule sees me in Chengdu over the wekned.

The tea house is 15 minutes from downtown Chengdu. is a friendly place to drop into,  plenty of warmth.
