How it all started 1

It started with two Dutch friends Arnold and Bas in the year 2000. After having travelled quite a number of countries together in Europe, Central and South America, this time they were travelling in Vietnam.

The trip started in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), a good place to find a lot of information where to go, but like most Asian city very busy. After staying there a couple of days to explore, to visit the port, the war museum and the nightlife it was time to move.

They took the night train to Nha Trang, in search for the more easy places in Vietnam. Arriving in Nha Trang very early in the morning, they took off to the first beach to settle down and see what the day would bring.

Soon the beach vendors found them and did their very best to sell the merchandise. One of them, she sold fruit and sea fruit, convinced them to have some freshly cooked shrimps and langoustines. Although it was not recommended to buy this kind of risky food, Arnold and Bas could not resist and ate quite a lot of it. It appeared to be some of the finest tastes they have had in a long time.

No, they did not get sick.

But this super delicious food made them thirsty and while looking for a beer they read on the last page of the menu of the first beach bar:

"If you want to get away from it all, ask the bartender".

So they did.

This resulted in a 2 hour drive and a 3 hour boat trip without anyone able to explain where it would lead to. Just when they started to feel uncomfortable about the outcome of the trip, the boat arrived at a paradise place called Ile Tortue (Tortoise Island), a tiny, stylish resort in the middle of nowhere run by a Frenchman. This appeared to be just the place that they were looking for: a little heaven on earth. They stayed there for 5 days and passed the time diving, snorkelling, sailing, swimming, hiking, reading, relaxing, good eating (it was run by a frenchmen you know), etc.

Unfortunately, holidays are not endless and Arnold and Bas had to move on. After visiting destinations like Hue  (nice market) and Da Nang (former America base) they arrived in a small and touristy place called Hoi An. Hoi An was a little more touristy than average but had a good atmosphere, nice streets to walk through, a river with a lot of activity and nice beaches some 5 km or so away.

As good Dutchmen they hired bicycles to get to the beach and it was on this Hoi An beach that they started fantasizing about the possibilities to share the beautiful travel experiences with others via the internet.

How it went on
Oct/20/2006 18:25

By sharing travel information via Internet, people can give and get objective information from their peers in stead of from agencies or from the read-only travel guides.

And by using the internet, giving and receiving travel information can be much more interactive and much more entertaining.

After returning to Amsterdam they kept on fantasizing, got other people involved and listed long sheets of ideas and plans towards the start of a new concept of a travel website.

However in 2001, the internet bubble burst and Arnold and Bas, both no internet experts, did not have many possibilities to move ahead. The idea landed in a cupboard and got a bit dusty.

Later, towards the end 2005 many things have changed. Arnold sets up new businesses and Bas lives in Spain, having time to do some extra work. The idea came up again and after a bit of dusting off and polishing, it appeared still very usable as a basis for a new travel website.

By involving more expert people the idea got its new name Trayle.com and evolved to what you can see now. Austrian Roland came in, liked it and manages development, Dutch Vivian entered the team from Spain, Spanish José Antonio believed in it and gave his go ahead. Dutch Peter, with lots of experience in the travel industry was enthusiastic right away and together with an expert team from Oberon Medialab, the founders of world66.com, Trayle is moving ahead rapidly towards new dimensions of travelling.

In the second half of 2006 the first release of Trayle was launched. Although this is by far not all that we think is possible, it is our first objective to get other travellers enthusiastic and start using the website. And we will soon move ahead. There are many ideas waiting.

Of course we can use YOUR help to improve Trayle. We would appreciate it if you would share your Trayle experiences with us and send your ideas and comments to trayle@obetron.nl.

Trayle: How does it work?
Sep/07/2006 21:31

At Trayle you register and create your own blogname. Then it all starts!

Explore the world

Just look for a destination by clicking on the map or by using the search bar and zoom in on locations of your interest. See if there are already posts or reviews made by others and learn more about the area.

You like the place? Then add it to your "Want to go there" Quick Trayle, as a reminder for later.

Share your experiences

Do you have stories, experiences, photos or reviews that you want to share with friends, family or other travellers? It is easy to Trayle it and make it visible for others. Just follow the 'Trayling' instructions.

You add your experiences in posts (stories), possibly with photos and make reviews and ratings of all places that have been visited. You can Trayle (link) these to the worldmap that is on top of your screen.

Your blog is presented nicely with stories, photos, details of places you have been and your pictures can be shown on a slide show with links to the worldmap.

Stay in touch

With www.Trayle.com you can stay in touch with colleague Traylers by adding them to 'my friends'. This way you can see on the map where they are. You receive an alert if they added new posts and you can contact them by email.

Book it

(Available soon)
There is a destination you want to go to?
You want to book a flight, a hotel, a car and much more? With our bookingpartners you can.

On this road- or aerial map (you choose) a Traveller can zoom in on a destination and find posts, reviews and pictures of others who have been there before.

For yourself, you can 'pinpoint' a location to your own posts, reviews and pictures. The map shows the path that you have travelled and the map shows a Trayle of your stories and pictures in all the visited places.

By using the Trayle.com "plug-in", (see: www.trayle.com/about), an identical map can be integrated into your personal website / weblog with, of course, the Trayling functionalities. This feature is currently only available on WordPress blogs.

This way the Traveller benefits from a very special extra feature and the extra traffic it generates through www.Trayle.com.

What to expect in the future?
Sep/07/2006 21:15

Trayle wants to be one of the most comprehensive and competitive travel sites.

In the very near future Trayle will be expanded with many new features. Think of a booking system (for flights, hotels, cars, concerts and special events), a system to reward Travelers for sharing their information with Trayle, a travel planner, a rating system for all places visited by Traylers, a travel shop with special deals, a travel forum, a buddy system for helping a traveler locally, personalized deals that fit YOUR profile, uploading videos and pictures from your mobile phone to your blog, a newsletter for the area YOU are in and much more.

And Further?
Sep/07/2006 21:12

Of course Trayle is free to use.

Just Trayle for yourself and we hope you will be enthusiastic to use Trayle.com as your own favorite travel site.

And remember, this is just the beginning! There is much more to come in the near future, and we will not forget the early members.

If you have any comments, ideas or other remarks after your first steps into the world of www.Trayle.com, we would be very happy to hear these!
